Background of the Study

Data analytics has emerged as a transformative tool for manufacturing firms globally, enabling them to optimize operations, reduce costs, and enhance decision-making. By analyzing large volumes of data, manufacturing firms can gain insights into production processes, supply chain inefficiencies, and market dynamics, fostering better resource allocation and operational efficiency.

In Nigeria, particularly in Yobe State, manufacturing firms face challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, fluctuating market demands, and limited technological adoption. Leveraging data analytics can address these challenges by providing actionable insights for process improvement and productivity enhancement. Recent studies (Ahmed & Bello, 2023; Musa et al., 2024) emphasize that data analytics significantly improves operational efficiency by streamlining workflows and reducing waste. This study explores how data analytics influences operational efficiency in manufacturing firms within Yobe State.

Statement of the Problem

Manufacturing firms in Yobe State often grapple with inefficiencies in production, resource management, and supply chain operations. Traditional management methods, which rely on intuition and limited data, fail to provide the precision and adaptability required in today’s dynamic markets.

Despite the potential benefits of data analytics, its adoption in Yobe State's manufacturing sector remains low due to barriers such as insufficient technological infrastructure, high implementation costs, and limited expertise. Research by Okafor and Umar (2024) indicates that firms that integrate data analytics achieve significant improvements in operational efficiency. This study examines the specific effects of data analytics on operational efficiency in manufacturing firms in Yobe State.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the impact of data analytics on operational efficiency in manufacturing firms in Yobe State.

  2. To identify the challenges hindering the adoption of data analytics in these firms.

  3. To propose strategies for enhancing the use of data analytics to improve operational efficiency.

Research Questions

  1. How does data analytics impact operational efficiency in manufacturing firms in Yobe State?

  2. What challenges hinder the adoption of data analytics in these firms?

  3. What strategies can improve the integration of data analytics for operational efficiency?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Data analytics does not significantly improve operational efficiency in manufacturing firms in Yobe State.

  2. Challenges significantly hinder the adoption of data analytics in these firms.

  3. Proposed strategies do not significantly enhance the adoption of data analytics.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study focuses on manufacturing firms in Yobe State, exploring the impact of data analytics on operational efficiency. Limitations include restricted access to proprietary operational data and variations in technological capabilities among firms.
